The Outstanding Tiny Desk AI template fixes the scene and lets you recast specific performers. Use this guide to plan the lineup, then open Outstanding Tiny Desk AI to assign the photos.
What's in the template
The template is one 17-second performance with the original audio. The room, camera moves and shot order stay in place while the chosen people change.
- Opening: the clip starts inside the existing band scene with your cast already in place; there is no custom opening title.
- The “Outstanding” refrain: the performers follow the source performance's singing, gestures and musical timing.
- Closing: the clip ends with the template's own cut, rather than an extra generated scene.
The 5 spots you can recast
- Lead singer: the red cap and black clothes identify the original performer followed by the close-up. Put the person you want to feature most prominently here.
- Front-center mic singer: the singer in the white hat at the central front microphone. A friend who wants a visible supporting part fits here.
- Back-row left singer: the singer on the left of the rear row in the wide view. Use a separate portrait for this bandmate.
- Back-row right singer: the singer on the right of the rear row. Assign another person here to expand the group.
- Sax player: the performer holding the saxophone. Choose a person for the instrumental spot; you do not need a photo of them with an instrument.
These descriptions identify the original positions, not outfits you need to copy. The generation uses the appearance and clothes from each uploaded photo while retaining the performance equipment.
Filling fewer than 5 spots
The lead singer needs a photo. Add any of the remaining four slots that you want to change, and leave the others blank. The generation instructions explicitly keep unassigned people unchanged: they remain in the band, with their original appearance. A single uploaded photo therefore changes the lead while the rest of the band stays in place.
See the Tiny Desk AI video generator for output choices, or follow the tutorial to build the cast.
Template ideas
- Birthday: give the birthday person the lead and fill supporting spots with friends who agreed to join.
- Graduation: cast a small group of classmates to mark finishing together.
- Coworkers: use individual portraits from a team that wants to take part, with the team lead at the main mic.
- A duo: recast the lead and front mic, leaving the rear singers and sax player unchanged.
Pick people first, then check the photo requirements so each face has a usable reference.
FAQ
- Which spots can I replace?
- The five recastable spots are the lead singer, the front-center mic singer, the back-row left singer, the back-row right singer and the sax player.
- Can I leave spots empty?
- Yes, after adding the required lead photo. Any of the four optional spots can stay empty; those people remain as they are in the original clip. Empty slots do not remove performers from the scene.
- Can I change the song?
- No. This template retains the original audio. There is no song picker or lyric replacement in this generator.
- Is this template supplied by NPR or Tiny Desk?
- No. It is part of an independent fan tool and has no affiliation with or endorsement from NPR or Tiny Desk Concerts.
